Earth Day 2021

On this day we are taking stock of how we are trying to make a positive change to our environment. Since our founding in 1993, we’ve aimed to achieve the highest standards of performance in our products at the same time as maintaining a responsible approach to our business.

We are committed to using our voice and gear to help preserve our wild spaces. Over the years this key tenet has expanded to include more direct activism via partnerships and support of specific initiatives. Such as:

The Climate Project:

A BMC Initiative to regenerate regenerate vital peat moorland .

Peat moorlands cover 15% of the UK, but many have been dug up, drained or destroyed. The Peak District moorland landscape is now the most degraded in Europe and damaged peat can be a great carbon emitter. The BMC in partnership with Moors for the Future are regenerating these areas with Sphagnum moss, which when growing healthily, takes as much carbon out of the atmosphere as a tropical rainforest.

Montane X BMC Range:

A rugged, no-nonesence range of crag-ready clothing that directly contributes to the BMC's Climate Project initiative.

Our recent collaboration with the British Mountaineering Council was inspired by the relaxed, no-nonsense style of climbers who spend all day at the crag. Montane donated 5% of MONTANE X BMC sales in the UK to the BMC’s charity; the Access & Conservation Trust (ACT) supporting ‘The Climate Project’ which helps to recover the English moors through peat bog restoration.

Previous Initiatives:

We have been a long-standing supporter of the BMC's environmental conservation goals, and have helped raise funds and awareness for a number of different inititaives.

mend our mountains profile

Mend Our Mountains was a BMC-lead initiative to raise £1 million in order to help maintain our beautiful outdoor spaces, safeguarding them for years to come and ensuring they can be enjoyed for future generations.
