A rescue mission was launched on Wednesday 27th February after the Base Camp team had no contact with the pair since Sunday 24th February. Their last known position was somewhere around 6400m. Severe weather conditions, regional political tension and high avalanche risk over the past week hampered search efforts. Early on Thursday, 7th March, another expedition team lead by Spanish climber Alex Txikon identified the remains of both men on the Mummery Spur route they had been attempting.
