The Montane Winter Spine Race: 11-19 January, 2025

Welcome to the official Montane event hub for the 2025 Spine Race. Your one-stop-shop for all things related to Britain’s most brutal race. With several races to watch, here are the starting times to be aware of this year (more info, including how to track each race can be found below):

Spine Challenger South: 8:30AM 11th January
Spine Sprint: 12PM 11th January
Winter Spine Race: 8AM 12th January
Spine Challenger North: 8AM 13th January

Spanning the entire Pennine Way, the MONTANE® Spine Race is a challenging 268-mile, non-stop, winter expedition race based in the North of England. Completing the Spine requires pushing your limits further than ever before.

Spine Race: 268 Miles

The original race features the full length of the Pennine Way.

Spine Challenger: 108 Miles

Takes on the first section of the PW: Edale to Hawes.

Spine Challenger North: 160 Miles

Takes on the last section of the PW: Hawes to Kirk Yetholm.

Spine Sprint: 42 miles

Celebrating over 10 years of the Spine Race

The Spine has come a long way since its humble beginnings. Since those early days, the race has gained global recognition as one of the toughest ultras going.
