Why we’re donating to Fix the Fells this Black Friday

We value the great outdoors and all the positive physical and mental wellbeing it provides. That’s why this year we’re donating our Black Friday marketing budget to Fix the Fells, so we can help protect the Lake District for future generations.

If the past 18 months has taught us anything, it’s that nature has never been more important. More of us than ever before now value the freedom and fresh air that being outside brings. For us at Montane it has only made us more passionate about protecting the amazing outdoor playgrounds we know we’re privileged to explore.

A lifelong passion for the outdoors

Our love of the great outdoors is something that has driven us for over 25 years. It’s why we do what we do: design specialist outdoor clothing that enables more of you to enjoy it. But we know that we have a responsibility to help protect the green spaces we love for future generations.

That’s why we choose to support projects that help us do just that. This includes EOCA (European Outdoor Conservation Association) who help conserve wild places across the globe through a variety of inspiring projects. We have worked with this incredible team for several years now and donated our 2020 Black Friday budget to support their efforts!

How we’re protecting the Lake District

This year, we’re supporting Green Friday (26 November) once again and donating our marketing budget of £2500 to Fix the Fells. This is an organisation based in the Lake District dedicated to protecting the local landscapes from erosion. Our donation will go towards helping support their efforts in tackling the problem of repairing and maintaining a network of 344 upland paths, covering approximately 410 miles.

Alongside the Green Friday donation, as part of our ongoing Montane George Fisher’s Tea Round initiative, we’re also match funding donations for 2021 for Fix the Fells to help off-set any damage participants on the Tea Round may cause on the mountains of the route.  George Fisher’s Tea Round is a 30-mile route with over 12,000ft of ascent that starts and finishes at the doors of George Fisher in Keswick.

“The popularity of the paths in the Lake District for hillwalkers, fell runners, and ultra-races coupled with unpredictable weather has led to severe erosion on the fells. If there weren’t initiatives like Fix the Fells in place, then much-loved outdoor spaces such as these soon wouldn’t exist.”
